  26. Apparently, they took the money and ran. There's a fellow on Portal
  27. who, in our nightly chats, has told us of going thru the same thing
  28. you did, except he took his hunt further, to the Santa Barbara CA
  29. District Atty's office. Found out that Cybernetica's office was
  30. closed, that none of the 3 or 4 guys who made up the company could
  31. be located anywhere. Quite a scam they pulled. If you ever see
  32. your $200 again you'll be lucky.

  34. My suggestion: 
  35. 1. Don't ever pre-order any product that you don't know for a fact
  36. is shipping yet.

  38. 2. If you ignore #1, then use a credit card so you have some fair
  39. chance to get the money back if the co. vanishes.

  41. This is not the first time the Amiga community has been screwed like
  42. this.

  44. Friend of mine paid in advance at a company's booth at the last
  45. WOCA show in Pasadena (Fall of '93) for a $250 software product
  46. that "wasn't quite shipping yet but we're taking pre-orders."
  47. SIX MONTHS LATER he still didn't have delivery of it. Luckily
  48. he used a credit card and managed to get a full credit. All the
  49. time, that co. had merrily been running ads in the usual mags for
  50. the same product.

  52. Please remember, folks, anyone with a paint program can make a very sexy lookin
  53. g
  54. product ad for a product that doesn't exist. Before you throw money
  55. at a new product, make sure it's actually shipping and/or that someone
  56. you know/trust is in possession of it. There ARE a lot of small
  57. software companies out there who are honest, reputable, and deliver
  58. what they advertise. Unfortunately there are also a lot of them who 
  59. are scam artists. It pays to investigate and be careful.
